Spinocalanus oligospinosus  Park, 1970   (F)
Syn.: ? Spinocalanus caudatus Sars, 1920 (p.3); 1925 (p.31, figs.F); Rose, 1933 a (p.85, figs.F);
S. paraoligospinosus Hure & Scotto di Carlo, 1971 (p.584);
S. neospinosus Grice, 1971 (p.276, fig.F, Rem.); Kovalev & Schmeleva, 1982 (p.83); Bode & al., 2017 (p.600, Table I, fig. 2, 3, 4, morphology vs genetic).

Espèce Spinocalanus oligospinosus - Planche 1 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : T. S. Park in Bull. Mar. Sc., 1970, 20 (2). [p.492, Figs.62-65].
Female (from Caribbean Sea & G. of Mexico): 62, habitus (lateral right side); 63, basipod of Mxp; 64, P2 (posterior); 65, P3 (posterior).
Nota: First one or two metasomal segments bear inconspicuous integumental spinules. Poorly developed coxal comb of spines of the Mxp.

Espèce Spinocalanus oligospinosus - Planche 2 de figures morphologiquesissued from : G.D. Grice in Cah. Biol. Mar., 1971, XII. [p.277, Fig.2 A-I]. As Spinocalanus neospinosus.
Female (from W & E Medit.): A, habitus (lateral left side); B, Mx2; C, Mxp (coxa and basis); D, Mxp (terminal segment); E, P1; F, P2; G, P3 (distal two segments of exopod missing); H, P4 (distal two segments of exopod muissing); I, P4 (endopod omitted).
Nota: A1 reaches the end of furca. Mx1 with 6 setae on 1st inner lobe, 3 setae on 2nd inner lobe; 5 setae on 2nd basal segment; 16 setae on ebndopod; 11 setae on exopod. Other appendages similar to those of S. oligospinosus.
For the author this species is very similar to oligospinosus park (1970), but the two may be distinguished by the distribution of spinules on the metasome and spines on the coxa of Mxp. In neospinosus spinules are present on the right sides of the first three metasomal segments and on the left sides of the first four metasomal segments (In oligospinosus only the first two metasomal segments bear lateral spinules. Also , although variable in size the spines on the coxa of Mxp may be as large as fourth the length of the spines on the basis (in oligospinosus the spines on the coxa are very small, sometimes nearly invisible.

Espèce Spinocalanus oligospinosus - Planche 3 de figures morphologiquesIssued from : M. Bode, S. Laakmann, P. Kaiser, W. Hagen, H. Auel & A. Cornils in J. Plankton Res., 2017, 39 (4). [p.604, Table I].
Species identified via morphological and molecular analyses, including the number of specimens used for each identification method (MI: morphological identification, COI: cytochrome c oxydase subunit I gene fragment, MS: MALDI-TOF analysis, 18 S: ribosomal 18 S gene fragment).
Cryptic lineages were revealed only after molecular analysis.
Sampling depth, latitude, total length (TL) and Prosome/Urosome ratio (Pr:Ur) of taxon were recorded.
morphological characters are only listed here, if the identification was ambiguous due to missing body parts or if cryptic or pseudocryptic lineages were revealed during molecular analyses.
For diagnostic character of species refer to the references: Park, 1970; Grice, 1971; Damkaer, 1975; Schulz, 1989, 1996.
C = coxa; B = basis; P = swimming legs.
