Tortanus (Atortus) recticaudus (Giesbrecht, 1889) (F,M) | |
| | | | | | Syn.: | Corynura recticauda Giesbrecht,1889; 1892 (p.525, 772, figs.F,M); Rose, 1956 (p.462); Maiphae & Sa-ardrit, 2011 (p.641, Table 2, 3, Rem.) | | | Ref.: | | | Giesbrecht & Schmeil, 1898 (p.158, Rem. F,M); Steuer, 1926 a (p.63, figs.F,M, chart); Bowman, 1986 (p.239, figs.F, Rem.); Francis & Bijoy Nandan, 2019 (p.433, Table 4, 5). | Issued from : W. Giesbrecht in Systematik und Faunistik der Pelagischen Copepoden des Golfes von Neapel und der angrenzenden Meeres-Abschnitte. – Fauna Flora Golf. Neapel, 1892. Atlas von 54 Tafeln. [Taf.31, Figs.11, 16 ]. As Corynura recticauda. Female (from Assab = Aseb, S Red Sea): 11, P2 (posterior view); 16, P5.

issued from : T.E. Bowman in Crustaceana, 1986, 50 (3). [p.240, Fig.1]. Female (from United Arab Emirates): A, urosome (dorsal); B, genital segment of another female (dorsal); C, urosome (ventral); D, A1 (portion); F, P5; K, head (dorsal). Male: E, right A1; G, P5 (anterior); H, same (posterior); I-J, right P5 (from different aspects). Female characters: Ratio Prosome : Urosome about 3.9. Head with middorsal cruciform sclerotized structure. A1 nearly reaching end of caudal ramus. Genital segment asymmetrical, expanded on both sides; left expansion a triangular lobe ending in small papilla with apical spinule; right expansion strongly convex to nearly straight laterally, with small posterolateral papilla with apical spinule. Anal segment fused with caudal rami dorsally, separated by suture ventrally. Left caudal ramus slightly wider and longer than right. Male characters: Ratio prosome : urosome about 3.3. Right A1, segment 18<19-21<22-25; flanges on margins of segment 17 and 19-21 smooth; distal spinous process of segment 19-21 straight. Urosome symmetrical except for genital opening on left side of urosomite 1 Anal segment and caudal rami fused dorsally, separate ventrally. Remarks: There are some differences from Giesbrecht's description and illustrations. In the latter the anal segment is separated dorsally from the caudal rami by a suture; the lobe on the right side of the genital segment is longer; and the process on the 1st endopod segment of the male right P5 is shown quadrate, with no indication taht it is bilobed. For the present, because of the close agreement in almost all features and the geographical proximity, the author assigns the Ruwais specimens to T. recticauda.

Issued from : S.V. Francis & S. Bijoy Nandan in Turkish J. Zool., 2019, 43. [p.435, Table 5]. Differential diagnosis of T. recticauda male. Compare with other species of the subgenus Atortus species from the Indian Ocean. Morphological characters male: - Left P5 subdistal seta strongly curved along hemispherical tip with the granular surface, and right coxa of P5 truncate with an uncinated corner, basis bearing medial bilobed process near midlength.
