Echantilloné par filet vertical entre 30 m et la surface. Ohtsuka & al. (2005, p.92, 97-98) émettent diverses hypothèses sur la découverte de cette espèce dans les eaux japonaises, encore inconnue malgré les nombreux travaux antérieurs. Parmi les hypothèses les plus probables que les auteurs avancent: Difficulté de récolte du fait d'une population locale en très faible nombre, introduction d'une pseudo-population introduite par une extension du Courant Kuroshio à partir d'une population d'origine tropicale/subtropicale, ou d'une introduction dans le port de Shimizu par l'importance du trafic maritime qu'il a connu. Une autre possibilité pourrait être, comme cela est connu dans le genre Centropages, l'existance d'oeufs en diapause (see in Grice & Marcus, 1981; Madhupratap & al., 1996; Marcus & Lutz, 1998). Pour S. Ribeiro & al. (2011) concernant la dormance d'un dinoflagellé Pentapharsodinium dalei enfoui dans les sédiments pouvait reprendre sa croissance après un siècle.
