Nota: The Sars' plate shows these dense brushes of fine, serrated setae on the basis and the four endopodal segments of the maxilla and on the five free endopodal segments of the maxilliped. It is difficult to discern the precise structure of these setae from the figures but reexamination of the type specimen confirmed Sars\" observations. However, the components of the brushes are not clearly articulated basally. The presence of these brushes in a relatively advanced genus within the Augaptilidae is here interpreted as a secondary condition, probably resulting from subdivision of the original elements.
