Tanaka & M. Omori in Publs Seto Mar. Biol. Lab., 1974, XXI (3/4). [p.254, Fig.28]. Female: a, forehead (lateral); b, last thoracic segment and urosome (lateral left side); c, idem (dorsal); d, exopod of A2; e, Mx1; f, Mx2. Nota: The urosome segments and furca are in the proportional lengths as 46:12:22:20 = 100. Prosome and urosome are in the proportional lengths as 80:20. A1 extends beyond the furca by 6 segments. The species can be characterized by the short 3rd urosomal somite.

issued from : J.B.L. Matthews in Bull. Br. Mus. (Nat. Hist.) Zool., 1972, 24 (1). [p.20, Fig.9, D-H]. Male (from 28°07'N, 14°07'W): D, habitus (dorsal); E, part of right A1 showing geniculate joint; F, Md (biting edge of mandibular gnathobase); G, exopodite of P1; H, P5 (anterior view). D: scale II; E-H: scale III. Nota: The last 4 segments of A1 extend past the end of urosome. The geniculate joint on the right-hand is not pronounced and the only associated modification is a spiny projection towards the distal ebnd of the segment before. A2 lacks setae on the basipodite, but otherwise is the same like in female. The mandibular palp is identical to that of the female and the gnathobase agrees with the figure given by Giesbrecht (1892), except that the middle and distal teeth are sharper; Sars (1925) figured an extra, fine tooyh in the proximal group. Mx1 with 11 spines on the 1st endite, while Giesbrecht (1892) figured 10 and 1 small seta and Sars (1925) showed only 9. Mxp has one more small seta on the terminal segment than Sars (1925) has depicted. P1-P4 are the same as Sars (1925) for female. In the dissected specimen the right P5 lacks a spine on the 1st exopodite segment (almost certainly due to loss). The spiny projection on the end of this ramus is about twice as long as the terminal spine and the projection on the inner margin of the 2nd segment is small, with a feeble tip and with some associated setules just distal to it. The lef-hand limb is quite usual for the genus.
For Matthews, the specimens agree so closely with the female of E. squamatus

Issued from : C.O. Esterly in Univ. Calif. Publs Zool., 1913, 11 (10). [Pl. 10, Figs. 4, 22]. As Augaptilus californicus. Female (from S California): 4, abdomen (lateral); 22, forhead (lateral). Nota: Last thoracic segment rounded laterally. Cephalothorax four and one-half times as long as abdomen. Genital segment protrudes on the ventral surface and the aperture surrounded by hairs; the segment is as long as the other two together and more than 3 times as long as the 2nd segment. A1 24-segmented, 7.3 mm long The inner ramus of A2 is less than twice the length the outer. Cephalothorax length: 5 mm. Body very transparent, the 20th segment of A1 with a brown band around.
