Distribution map of Talacalanus greeni by geographical zones
Loc:
Antarct. (S Atlant., Indian, SW & SE Pacif.), sub-Antarct. (SE Pacif.), South Africa (E) (Natal), G. of Guinea, Canary Is., off Lisboa, Bay of Biscay, Azores, off Bermuda: Station "S" (32°10'N, 64°30'W), Sargasso Sea, S Iceland, W Ireland, Arabian Sea, Japan (Izu region), N Alaska (Point Barrow: 71°23'20''N, 156°28'45''W), off Peru (in C.B. Wilson, 1950, p.351), S Chile
N: 17
Lg.:
(1) F: 8; (11) M: 7,1; (15) F: 10,5-8,91; (58) F: 6; (70) F: 8,6; ? (239) F: 5,5; (866) M: 7,1-8,1; {F: 6,00-10,50; M: 7,10-8,10}
Rem.: After Pearson (1906, p.20): vertical range down to 700 m at 53°58'N, 12°28'W. For the author this species may prove to be the same as Xanthocalanus muticus Sars, 1905. Sampling depth (Antarct., sub-Antarct.) : 0-2000 m. Sargasso Sea: 1000-1500 m (Deevey & Brooks, 1977, station "S");
This species is maintained in the genus Xanthocalanus by certain authors, admitting however the genus Talacalanus.
According to Tanaka & Omori (1967, p.247) Wilson's record from the surface off Peru is incredible, also the occurrence of the species from NW Pacific adjacent to Japan is the first record from the Pacific.
