Male: habitus (dorsal); S5, P5 (Le = left leg; Ri = right leg).

Brodsky notes some difference in the structure of P5 as described by Gisbrecht in grandis , between specimens from the equatorial part of the Pacific and those from Atlantic and Antarctic. In specimens from the latter two regions the 2nd badsipod of P5 male is not swollen and lacks denticles.

Nota : A1 exceeding caudal rami by 2 or 3 segments Cephalosome with small triangular or rounded lateral protrusions, sometimes lateral sides are nearly smooth. Rostral rami widely spaced, tips occasionally convergent. Genital double-somite with oval-elongate plug. Anal somite shorter than two preceding somites together, dorsal side only slightly swollen. Caudal rami in dorsal view 2.9-3.1 times longer than anal somite and 8 times longer than wide. Medial seta of exopod 2 of P5 attenuate, very thin at tip.

Nota : A1 21-segmented (18th segment is the longest) exceeding caudal rami by 2 or 3 segments. Lateral sides of cephalosome without pointed protrusions. 1st exopodal segment of right P5 as long as or slightly longer than the 2nd exopodal segment ; 2nd endopodal segment without hairs ; basipod with medial projection ; basipod of left P5 medial-distally with moderate projection with marginal teeth, exopodal segment 3 elogate oval-triangular.
P5 from the north-western Pacific Ocean and Southern Ocean identical in structure.

Nota: The present specimen female differs slightly from that of sars' in the proportional length of A1 and in proportional length of the inner edge spine of the 2nd sefgment of the exopod to the 3rd segment of the exopod in the P5. The male specimen though differs slightly from that described by Sars in the proportional lengths of the abdominal segments and caudal rami, has P5 quite similar in the structure to that figured by Sars.

Cephalosome with slightly projecting and rounded anterior corners and well developed lateral spinous projections; anal somite about as long as wide; caudal rami 11.7 times longer than wide and bowed outwards at base, leaving elliptical space between rami proximally.
2 - P1 with 3-segmented endopod.
3 - Cephalosome with 1 pair lateral spinous projections.
4 - Genital double-somite symmetrical (dorsal view).
5 - Anal somite much shorter than caudal ramus.
6 - P5 with 3-segmented endopod.
7 - Characters not combined between distal 3 to 4 segments of A1 reaching beyond tip of caudal ramus and body length less than 3mm.
8 - Cephalosome with 1 pair of rounded lateral projections.
9 - Anal somite as long as preceding somite; caudal rami shorter than urosome.

Nota: Aftre Tanaka (1963) and Hulsemann (1966) the basis of right P5 male shows a proximal inner prominence missing in the sample of Kerguelen.
