Une grande confusion règne entre l'espèce décrite par Lubbock (1853) et Pontellopsis regalis du fait de la synonymie établie par Giesbrecht (1892). Pour Bradford-Grieve (1999 b, p.207) les espèces sont distinctes. Les localisations pour les deux espèces sont difficiles à préciser.
