Nota:
- Forehead in dorsal view produced into rounded protrusion dorsal to base of rostrum and extending into pair of small divergent spine-like processes.
- Posterior border of pediger 5, in dorsal view, extending into transparent, asymmetrical lappets, slightly longest on right.
- Genital double-somite symmetrical in dorsal view, widest at about anterior 1/3, 1.21 times longer than wide, seminal receptacles not observed.
- A1 extending beyond caudal rami by about 4 segments.
- P1 exopod with articulation between exopodal segments 2 and 3 well-developed, distolateral corner of endopodal segment 1 bilobed.

Species Bathycalanus bucklinae - Plate 2 of morphological figuresIssued from : J.M. Bradford-Grieve, L. Blanco-Bercial & G.A. Boxshall in Zootaxa, 2017, 4229 (1). [p.120, Fig.78].
Female A1 ancestral segments: A, sdegments I-XI; B, segments XII-XVI; C, segments XVII-XXI; D, segments XXII-XXVIII; E, dorsal surface of segment I-V showing position of hair sensilla (hs) and macula cribrosa (mc); F, detail of segment XXVIII.
Scale bars: 1.0 mm (A-E); 0.1 mm (F).

Nota: Anterior and posterior borders of ancestral segments XVI-XXI smooth. Hair sensillum on ancestral segment II not accompanied by macula cribrosa.

Species Bathycalanus bucklinae - Plate 3 of morphological figuresIssued from : J.M. Bradford-Grieve, L. Blanco-Bercial & G.A. Boxshall in Zootaxa, 2017, 4229 (1). [p.121 Fig.79].

Scale bars: 1.0 mm (E, F); 0.1 mm on remaining figures.

Nota:
- A2 exopod segment IV with short seta extending to distal border of segment VIII and bearing short setules.
- Mx1 praecoxal arthrite with 13 setae including 2 on posterior surface and 2 setae on anterior surface, one of them small; coxal endite without setae; basal endites 1 and 2 with 2 and 4 setae, respectively; endopod segments with 2 (subequal), 2 (subequal), 5+1 smaller anterior surface seta.
- Mxp syncoxal endite 4 longest, toothed seta exte,ding half way along endopodal segment 2.

Species Bathycalanus bucklinae - Plate 4 of morphological figuresIssued from : J.M. Bradford-Grieve, L. Blanco-Bercial & G.A. Boxshall in Zootaxa, 2017, 4229 (1). [p.122, Fig.80].

Scale bar = 1.0 mm.

Species Bathycalanus bucklinae - Plate 5 of morphological figuresIssued from : J.M. Bradford-Grieve, L. Blanco-Bercial & G.A. Boxshall in Zootaxa, 2017, 4229 (1). [p.91, Table 10].
Morphological characters after identification key of Bathycalanus females and males.
Compare to other species of genus.

Main characters identification after species key :
1 - Mx1 praecoxal endite without setae.
2 - Anterior margin of head with 2 very small spine-like processes.
3 - P1 exopod segments 2 and 3 separate;
4 - Pedigerous somites 4 and 5 without laterally extended lappets; Genital double not angular shaped.
5 - Genital double-somite hardly swollen in dorsal view, without spinules. (male unknown).
6 - Pedigerous somite 5 extended posteriorly into asymmetrical, irregularly shaped lappets. (male unknown)

Distribution of Bathycalanus species;
Bathycalanus richardi (filled squareç; Bathycalanus bradyi (filled triangle); Bathycalanus milleri (open triangle); Bathycalanus dentatus (open square); Bathycalanus tumidus (open circle); Bathycalanus adornatus (open diamond); Bathycalanus pustulosus (filled star); Bathycalanus unicornis ( (filled diamond); Bathycalanus bucklinae (filled circle); Bathycalanus eximius (cross).

For Bradford-Grieve & al. (2017, p.122) is related to Ba. richardi in that it has a pair of small anterior spine-like processes on the head. This species can be distinguished from any other Bathycalanus species by: 1- pedigerous somite 5 with long asymmetrical posterolateral lappets; 2- body somites smooth and without pustules; 3- a genital double-somite with a widest part, in dorsal view, at 1/3 the distance from the anterior border; 4- female A1 ancestral segment II hair sensillum not accompanied by macula cribrosa; 5- 4 setae on the 2nd basal endite of Mx1.
